A woman was killed today while attempting to cross the Lebanese border. Her daughter, a 10-year-old child, was injured by a bullet in her leg as well.
Activists reported that Tajah Jaber Mohammad Al-Tarshan was killed by the Lebanese border guards, and her daughter was wounded when they were targeted by the border guards while trying to enter Lebanon. They are residents of the town of Al-Shamitiyah in the western Deir Ezzor countryside.
This incident of civilians being targeted by the Lebanese border guards comes just days after the Lebanese Army Commander, General Joseph Aoun, stated, ‘Smuggling across the borders has become an existential threat, and we can no longer tolerate it. We may have to engage with them or tell the army to move against them, so they attack you, and we have an excuse to kill them legally.'”
