Informed sources told DeirEzzor24 network that Haj Mahdi, has been waiting for his appointment as a general of the IRGC since his recent arrival in Damascus, confirming the emergence of an Iranian rival for the position.

It is expected that the position will be voted on by Iranian officials in Syria, while calls for the appointment of Haj Mahdi are rising, according to the source.

Al-Haj Mahdi is considered the general responsible for the Revolutionary Guard militia in Syria, and he is one of the most prominent commanders in Deir Ezzor province, where he supervises military and religious matters and foreign militias located east of the Euphrates.
