The Military Security branch imposes taxes on traders who would like to open their shops in the market or streets of the city of al-Bukamal.
The branch forced the traders to obtain a security permission issued in return for 100,000 Syrian pounds, to extort civilians and exploit them to make money.
The Military Security branch imposed taxes on different trade sectors in al-Bukamal threatening to arrest those who refuse to pay, and hinder their work. Such procedures entrench corruption spread in the Assad regime’s institutions, complicate civilians’ affairs, and aggravate their poor life conditions.
