Well-informed sources told Deir Ezzor 24 Network that the Assad regime’s Minister of Education the vet Darem Taba’ retracted his decision of appointing Midyan al-Burdani the Education Manager in Deir Ezzor as a successor of Nashaat al-Ali. The minister retracted the decision only 15 hours after appointing al-Burdani.
The sources added that Taba’ retraction followed Shabiha’s indignation of the decision on the background of similarity of the surname of Midyan al-Burdani with Khalil al-Burdani the commander of Free Syrian Army (FSA)’ Deir Ezzor Military Council battalion. Khalil al-Burdani is the commander of the Muhammad battalions in the FSA.
The sources said that as a result of that, al-Taba’ cancelled appointing al-Burdani and assigned Jasem al-Fareh, who is a relative of Firas al-Iraqiya. The source emphasized that Raed al-Ghadban the secretary of al-Baath Party in Deir Ezzor and Firas al-Iraqiya pressured to cancel the decision.
Al-Ghadban has become influential in Deir Ezzor and the Assad regime-controlled countryside due to his excessive support of Assad, involvement in suppressing demonstrations in Deir Ezzor during the revolution, forming the al-Baath Battalions Militia, and launching battles against Daesh, and his depending on Iran’s support.
Firas al-Iraqiya is the commander of the National Defense Militia (ND)in Deir Ezzor. Recently, al-Iraqiya played a key role in opening the so-called (Khaymat Wattan) tent of a home country to attract supporters for Assad’s elections. Before joining the ND militia, al-Iraqiya was famous for promoting drugs and hashish, and fraud and looting.
Appointing al-Fareh stirred people’s resentment in Deir Ezzor, especially as he holds a certificate of a teacher, which means he is not qualified for the post of Education Manager of Deir Ezzor.
Nepotism and corruption are wide-spread in the Assad regime’s institutions in Deir Ezzor. Military militias run these institutions and try to empower close people and appoint them in the state directorates. The militias expel efficiencies and account civilians depending on their surnames.
