On Monday, December 7, 2020, a United States (US) Department of the State’s delegation headed by Emily Brandit, and Joel Rayburn the US special envoy for Syria, and commanders of the US Army in Syria and Iraq met military commanders and civil leaders.
In al-Hasakah, the delegation met Doctor Ghassan al-Yousef the joint chief of the Deir Ezzor Civil Council, Ahmad al-Khabeel (Abu Khawla) the commander of the Deir Ezzor Military Council, and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)’ commanders.
Both sides discussed the political and economic conditions in the area. They addressed different issues, most importantly preserving stability and security, supporting developmental and services projects, facing Iran’s threats and considering them as destabilizing the area, stressing the fact that the US supports efforts to face Daesh, and supporting operations that contribute to eliminating the organization.
The visit coincides with a tour of US officials to Syria and Iraq to follow up with the most important political and economic updates and their reflection on the area.
