Every year ,Deir Ezzor’s farmers begin picking cotton crop, but over the last three years its cultivation dropped significantly, the percentage of decrease has reached 80 % compared with the proportion of cultivation in the past few years.
According to the farmers, the reasons which caused this deterioration is embodied in the lack of basic cultivation materials such as fertilizers and seeds, high prices, and the absence of the importer of cotton following the destruction of cotton gins.
The lack of water also played a major role in the deterioration of cotton planting such is the case in the northern rural areas “Khabur River line”.
