The markets in besieged Deir Ezzor, Al-Joura, Al-Qusour and Harabish neighborhoods, have recently become stocked with food materials, which had been unavailable months before, a D24 correspondent reported today.
He said that, “The markets in the besieged neighborhoods are now filled with food materials after the merchants in the areas transported and brought an unprecedented stock of vegetables, fruits and other necessary materials. However, the prices are sky high.”
The main reason that led the merchants to take such a step was the increase of the SYP exchange rate against the dollar, pushing them to transport more amounts of food to the markets.
Despite the markets are now consisting of most of the necessary food materials in enormous amounts, the trapped civilians are still unable to buy most them as their prices remain unaffordable amid the deplorable and appalling siege conditions they have been going through for more than two years.
Some of the current prices of vegetables in besieged Deir Ezzor:
Eggplant: 3600 SYP
Potatoes: 3300 SYP
Pepper: 5000 SYP.
Their prices are high even though they are available in huge amounts at the markets in besieged Deir Ezzor.
The markets in Daesh-held areas of Deir Ezzor are also filled with vegetables and other food materials. Their prices have also relatively decreased compared to the situation months ago.
