D24 took several pictures of the markets in the besieged neighborhoods of Deir Ezzor, which are caught between a rock and a hard place as both, Daesh and Assad, are employing siege warfare as means to attain their interests.
Despite the fact that Daesh has claimed that it imposed the siege on the regime-controlled areas in Deir Ezzor to pressure it, we have noticed so far that civilians in those areas remain the most affected and the only victims of the siege.
Some of those who want to flee are forced to pay large amounts of money to bribe some regime’s officials that are in charge of transporting civilians via cargo planes.
Although some civilians have begun planting vegetables in some areas in Deir Ezzor, the pictures show clearly that there is still a lack of vegetables and other food items in the markets. Al-Bughayliyah that is controlled by Daesh was a significant source of food for the besieged neighborhoods.
