On August 24, 2020, Omar Abu Layla the executive manager of the Deir Ezzor 24 Network met Joel Rayburn the special envoy for Syria ,and the United States (US) Secretary of the State deputy assistant, and a team from the US Secretary Department in Geneva.
The meeting discussed issues related to Northern and Northeastern Syria, especially Deir Ezzor.
Special envoy for Syria Joel Rayburn and Abu Layla discussed Iran’s presence in the region, its risk, and results.
Both sides discussed the recent events in east of the Euphrates areas in Deir Ezzor on the background of tribal dignitaries’ assassinations. Rayburn stressed the US is serious about sustaining security in the area in coordination with the International Coalition and the Syrian Democratic Forces.
Both sides discussed services situation, east of the Euphrates. Rayburn emphasized that there are projects and plans to improve services on different levels in the area and sustain stability and security.
Rayburn noted that it is necessary to activate Arabs’ role in areas east of the Euphrates by involving efficient people in running the areas’ affairs.
Rayburn emphasized that the US closely watches the coronavirus (COVID-19) spread’ diagram in Northern and Eastern Syria to save the area any potential consequences.
The meeting preceded the UN delegation meeting to be held with the constitutional committee in charge of formulating the constitution. Later, the meeting was postponed after detecting three COVID-19 cases among the committee’s members.
