Daesh launched a counter-attack against Assad’s forces and the sectarian militias in the desert of Deir Ezzor, capturing several positions and killing dozens of fighters. Daesh captured the T2 pumping station, which is one of the most important oil facilities in the province.
T2 pumping station is the only oil facility linking between T1 station in Iraq and an oil pipeline, in addition to the T4 T3 and T5 stations inside Syria which supply oil to the Coast region. Assad’s forces captured T2 station in 2017. It is also linked with the Omar oil field in the countryside of Deir Ezzor with 24 inch pipeline and several other roads in the north of Al Mayadeen, as well as areas in south and southeast the Iraqi border.
The previously mentioned stations in Syria were established by Britain in the twenty century to pump oil between Iraq and Syria. They are still being used to the very moment.
