The eastern Deir Ezzor countryside witnessed a security operation on this July 11, that resulted in the killing of one of the Daesh’s most dangerous financiers in the region.
Sources on the ground indicated that “the SDF” surrounded a house in Al-Suwar town where the so-called “Sheikh Thabet” was hiding, and called up on him several times to surrender but he refused and chose to resist, which led to a clash between him and the SDF, resulting in the killing of Sheikh Thabet.
Individual weapons, ammunition and explosives in addition to a number of phones and laptops were found at the place where he was hiding.
Sheikh Thabet played a major role in financing Daesh over the past years, he had the task of selling oil and providing funds to Daesh through a network of agents and collaborators who spread in different areas.
Sheikh Thabet also played a major role in financing Daesh sleeper cells, who spread mainly in Raqqa and Deir Ezzor provinces, in addition to other areas.
Speaking to Deir Ezzor 24, a local, who preferred to be unnamed, said: “The news about the elimination of Sheikh Thabet gave great satisfaction to the civilians in the area because by hiding among us, he was posing a hidden threat to our own safety and our families’.”
It is noteworthy that the region is witnessing successive security operations aiming at eliminating the remaining Daesh’s operatives and cells in the area, which is very important to ensure stability and security for civilians.
