Deir Ezzor 24 exclusive:

The education sector in the areas controlled by the SDF, in the eastern Deir Ezzor countryside is in a very difficult situation. Although Daesh left the region, but the education sector continues to decline significantly.

The Syrian democratic forces imposed some curricula and distributed a limited number of books to pupils in Deir Ezzor countryside, but those books were not adequately established.

According to sources in the education sector, the destruction of large parts of schools in the villages of Al-Hawayej, Ash-Shahil, Diban and Al-Tayanah, and other areas in the eastern Deir Ezzor countryside constitutes a major obstacle to education.

In addition, the Syrian democratic forces factions are using a number of schools, and also displaced families are living in a large number of them, which prevents the students and teachers from benefiting from those schools.

The sources pointed out that the United Nations took on the responsibility of printing the books and distributing them to the students, where the curricula that will be printed are the same as those used by the Assad regime as there is no way to develop new curricula.

There are dozens of primary and middle schools in Deir Ezzor countryside, but the local authorities have not taken any action to rehabilitate them, amid demands from the people to restore education.

According to the sources, there are about 33 schools in Ash-Shahil town, and about 15 school in Al-Hawayej town in the eastern Deir Ezzor countryside, in addition to 30 schools in Diban city in the east of Deir Ezzor, many of which are completely out of service.

The source also indicated that there are 650 teachers in Ash-Shahil, Al-Hawayej, and Diban east of Deir Ezzor, most of whom are without jobs due to the collapse of the educational process in the region.

There are about 14,000 pupils in the region, but the available books, chairs and school equipment can suffice only half of them, which means that half of the students are without books, which poses an obstacle to advancing the educational process in the region..

The people accused the education committee in the region that it has not worked enough to push the educational process forward, which in turn attributed that to the lack of support and the military domination over the region.

It is indicated that the education in Deir Ezzor countryside is at its worst amid reports that warn of widespread illiteracy, which leads to children employment.
