Today, Tuesday, June 2, 2020, a group of Deir Ezzor and Hasakah’s farmers declared a strike over the selling of wheat and barley to the autonomous administration in Deir Ezzor, Deir Ezzor 24 network correspondent said.
According to our correspondent, the farmers went on strike at the grain center of Deir Ezzor because they were unsatisfied with the new price of wheat adopted by the autonomous administration, compared to the price adopted by Assad regime.
Three days ago, the autonomous administration decided that wheat would be purchased from farmers at 315 Syrian pounds per kilogram, while Assad regime announced that it would purchase wheat at 400 Syrian pounds per kilogram.
The formers’ protests were caused due to the unprecedented decline in the exchange rate of the Syrian pound against the US dollar, as the exchange rate has reached nearly 2000 pounds for one US dollar.
