Deir Ezzor is experiencing an extreme heat wave these days. Temperatures reached 48C in the past few days, which brought more challenges to the people of Deir Ezzor, who suffer from the absence of the basic necessities of life, mainly electricity.
In this hot weather, ventilation and cool water are essentials for human beings, but most areas of Deir Ezzor don’t have access to them.
Hussam al-Elaiwi, a resident of Dablan village in Deir Ezzor countryside, told Deir Ezzor 24 about his every day journey to bring ice:
“I have to wake up early. preferably at dawn. At first I go to Al-Ishara roundabout to see if there is someone selling ice there. Of course it needs luck to find one, although there would be so many people crowding to buy some ice. I have to try to reach the seller before all the ice blocks are sold out, but most times I fail, so I have to go to al-Quriyah or al-Mayadeen to try my luck there.
The absence of electricity in Deir Ezzor countryside for several years made it difficult for people to have cool water in summer. Also other than the difficulty people have to go through to get some ice, they have to pay up to 2000 Syrian pounds per block, which is an additional burden on them.
